Shade names and codes identify available products. Final colour depends on starting colour, hair condition, formula, and professional application. Follow the product label and carry out the required tests.

How to read a shade code

Most professional shades are written as a number, a dot, then one or two more numbers — for example 7.1. The part before the dot tells you how light or dark the colour is; the part after tells you the tone laid over it. Once you can read both, choosing a shade becomes a lot less like guesswork.

Before the dotThe depth, from 1 (black) up to 10 (lightest blonde). This is the single biggest factor in how a shade will read.

Levels 1–5Black through to medium and light brown. The base for most natural looks and dependable grey coverage.

Levels 6–7Dark to medium blonde. Warmth starts to show here, and lift becomes more visible on darker starting hair.

Levels 8–10Light to lightest blonde. Reaching these cleanly needs healthy hair and the right developer strength.

After the dotThe tone, or reflect, sitting over the depth — the difference between an ashy, golden, or coppery finish at the same level.

.0 and .00Natural and intense natural. The safest choice for even grey coverage and a true-to-level result.

Cool tonesAsh (.1) and violet (.2) counter unwanted warmth and keep blondes looking clean rather than brassy.

Warm tonesGold (.3), copper (.4), mahogany (.5), and red (.6) add richness, warmth, or vibrancy to the base level.

Choose your developer

Bremod Performance oxidant creams are available in the strengths shown below. Use only the strength and mixing directions specified for the colourant and service.

Choose your rebonding system

Compare formula variant, pack format, and volume. Rebonding and neutralizing systems are intended for trained professional assessment and application.

Which developer strength?

The oxidant (developer) does the lifting. A higher percentage lifts more but is also harder on the hair, so match the strength to the job rather than reaching for the strongest option. Always mix at the ratio the colourant specifies, and never substitute a strength the formula does not call for.

6% / 20 VolTone-on-tone, darker results, and grey coverage at the same level or slightly lighter. The everyday workhorse for most colour services.

9% / 30 VolLifting two to three levels lighter. A middle ground when you need more lift than 6% gives but want to limit stress on the hair.

12% / 40 VolMaximum lift for high-lift shades and lighter results on darker starting hair. Use with care, and only where the formula and hair condition allow it.

Caring for rebonded or coloured hair

Chemical services reshape or open the hair fibre, so the days that follow matter as much as the service itself. A little patience here is what keeps a straightening or colour result looking its best.

  1. First 72 hoursAfter rebonding, keep hair straight and dry — no washing, tying, tucking behind the ears, or clips that leave a bend the treatment can set in.
  2. Wash gentlyMove to a mild, colour-safe shampoo and always follow with conditioner. Lukewarm water is kinder to the fibre than hot.
  3. Feed it weeklyAdd a mask or hot oil once or twice a week — keratin and protein masks to rebuild strength, moisture masks to restore softness and shine.
  4. Ease off the heatGive heat styling a rest where you can, and use a heat protectant when you do reach for irons or dryers.

Test before you colour or straighten

Two quick tests prevent most problems. Do the allergy test at least 48 hours before every colour service, even on a client you have coloured before, and do a strand test whenever the result is hard to predict. Never use hair colourants on eyelashes or eyebrows.

Allergy (patch) testMix a small amount as directed, apply behind the ear or inside the elbow, leave it untouched for 48 hours, and do not proceed if there is any itching, redness, or swelling.

Strand testApply the mixed formula to a hidden section of hair, time it exactly as the label states, then rinse and dry to check the colour result and how the hair holds up before doing the full head.

Assess conditionDo not proceed when the hair is over-processed or the scalp is broken, irritated, or sunburned. Reschedule and treat first if the hair or scalp is not in a suitable state.
